How One Workshop Sparked a Business—and a Movement
By Fahad, Ife Social Development
Fadumo’s life changed in a single week.
Before joining Ife’s Women’s Entrepreneurship Series, the 22-year-old from Baligubadle had no income, no confidence, and no path forward.
“I depended on my family for everything,” she admits. “I didn’t think I could ever support myself.”
Then, she attended one workshop—and everything shifted.
The Power of Skills and Opportunity
Our 6-day training teaches women:
📌 Business basics (budgeting, marketing, savings)
📌 Hands-on skills (tailoring, agriculture, digital literacy)
📌 Leadership & rights (financial independence, gender equity)
Fadumo learned to sew—and took out a microloan to buy her first sewing machine.
From Trainee to Employer
Just six months later:
✔ Fadumo’s tailoring business earns $200/month—triple Somaliland’s minimum wage
✔ She employs five other women, paying them fair wages
✔ Her designs are now sold in three nearby villages
“This program didn’t just teach me to sew,” she says. “It taught me I could be someone.”
