How Reforestation Is Restoring Land—and Livelihoods
By Maalim, Ife Social Development
In Daallo, the land tells a story of loss—and renewal.
For decades, deforestation and drought forced families to abandon their farms. Without trees, the soil eroded. Without soil, crops failed. Without crops, hunger spread.
But today, 10,000 young saplings stretch across the hills—each one planted by hands of hope.
The Crisis: A Land Without Trees
Somaliland has lost over 70% of its forest cover since 1990
Droughts now last twice as long, devastating farmers
Without roots to hold soil, flash floods wipe out villages
The Solution: Community-Led Reforestation
Our Daallo campaign engages entire villages to:
🌱 Plant native, drought-resistant species (acacia, boswellia)
🌱 Train “Tree Guardians” to protect saplings
🌱 Link reforestation to farming (agroforestry techniques)
Mohamed, a farmer, shared:
“These trees brought back the birds, the bees, and the rain. My children will eat because of them.”
The Impact
✔ 15,000 trees planted in 2025
✔ 50+ farmers trained in sustainable land use
✔ Wildlife returning to restored areas
